A NEW annotated edition of the Bible, published by the Bible Society and the London Institute for Contemporary Christianity (LICC), accommodates greater than 1000 notes, prompts, stories, and features to assist its readers to deal with “the nitty-gritty detail of life”.
Launched last month, the Everyday Faith Bible is designed to assist readers to “follow Jesus on daily basis of the week” through practical prompts, contextual notes, features, quotations, and real-life story examples.
It seeks to assist people to attach with ancient texts within the twenty first century by addressing “how the Bible speaks to the nitty-gritty detail of life within the UK today — from work meetings to football games to family dinners”, the LICC and Bible Society write of their introduction.
The notes are in three categories: “Head” concerns the scriptures’ real-world context; “Heart” seeks to assist readers to relate to experiences and emotions within the passage; and “Hands” encourages them to reply practically. Some of the features consider “reading uncomfortable passages”, “a corrupted world”, and “worship as a lifestyle”.
The supporting material is by a team including Dr Andrew Ollerton, Dr Lucy Peppiatt, Chine McDonald, the Revd Dr Helen Paynter, the Revd Dr Ian Paul, and the Revd Dr Isabelle Hamley.
The translation used is the New Revised Standard Version, and the book is priced at £28.99.
