Debt-relief charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) has warned that many individuals in Britain will “be facing a daunting financial reality” after the previous couple of weeks of Christmas spending on top of rising bills.
CAP has began a “Break the Debt Blues” campaign to assist those in financial hardship get on top of their funds by accessing free, face-to-face help from debt specialists.
Stewart McCulloch, CEO of CAP, said, “The first few weeks of the New Year will be tough, but for hundreds of thousands of individuals this financial strain is acute. We know that over 15 million people within the UK suffer every day anxiety about their funds, and the post-Christmas period often adds more pressure.”
McCulloch said it was essential that individuals realise they don’t have to face debt alone and that CAP, and the assistance they offer, is at all times there for many who need it.
“So many individuals appreciate that face-to-face support; it gives us the possibility to sit down down, chat, and properly understand what you might be going through. Whether you’re facing a mountain of unopened letters or simply don’t know where to begin, we will aid you gather the whole lot needed to place a plan in place,” he said.
Last 12 months, research commissioned by CAP suggested that nearly 1 / 4 of individuals living in Britain (23 per cent) have in some unspecified time in the future received support or assistance from a church or Christian organisation, mostly in the shape of food.
Sharon, a lady who received help from CAP, said the help they provided modified her life.
She said, “I used to be a mum with young kids, hundreds of kilos in debt, and I truthfully thought I’d never get out of the mess I used to be in. Then I heard about CAP. I made that first call to their helpline and was introduced to a neighborhood debt advisor—a beautiful lady called Kathryn who modified my life.”
Sharon now organises drop-ins at her local debt centre to assist others in similar circumstances.
