A NEW booklet inviting churches, small groups, and individuals “to have interaction prayerfully with each phrase” of the Nicene Creed is now available.
We Believe: Exploring the Nicene Creed, is published today by Church House Publishing, to mark the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council of Nicaea, whose deliberations ultimately led to the adoption of the Nicene Creed. The Creed was amended to its present form on the First Council of Constantinople, in 381.
The booklet “explores the theological depth and contemporary relevance of the Nicene Creed — some of the enduring and universal expressions of Christian faith”, an announcement from Church House says.
“Structured as a 24-day devotional, We Believe invites readers to have interaction prayerfully with each phrase of the Creed. Through day by day Scripture passages, thoughtful commentary, prayers and prompts for reflection, the booklet encourages individuals and communities to explore what it means to say ‘we imagine’ within the context of today’s world.”
The chair of the Liturgical Commission, the Bishop of Lichfield, Dr Michael Ipgrave, said: “The Nicene Creed has been a cornerstone of Christian belief for 1700 years — an announcement of religion that connects us not only to at least one one other, but in addition to generations before us in addition to to Christians the world over today.

Printed copies can be found as single booklets or in packs of ten. The reflections that it incorporates are also available, from today, on the C of E’s Everyday Faith app.
