This week on social: Covenants and the Book of Mormon

Leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints this week shared social media messages on covenants, the Book of Mormon and their love for members the world over.

Sharing an experience he had as a toddler getting his head stuck between two rails, Elder Dieter F. Uchtdorf of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught that covenants are constraints that guide us into the person we would like to grow to be, enabling us to have more freedom.

“These covenants and commandments will not be burdensome,” he said, “They are delights — for they’re the very things that guide you out of your current state into the person of glory you would like to grow to be.”

On the Young Women Worldwide Facebook page, Sister Tamara W. Runia, first counselor within the Young Women general presidency, reminisced over the heartfelt connections she made during her ministry to the Africa South Area in September 2023.

“To my recent friends across southern Africa, my sweet sisters in Christ, I really like you a lot and pray for each one in every of you!” Sister Runia said.

Sharing a Church News video during which he spoke on the 200 millionth copy of the Book of Mormon, Elder Dale G. Renlund of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles marveled on the miracle of the scripture’s publication and acceptance by many individuals. 

“The real miracle,” he said, “happens while you come to know for yourself that it’s true.”

Sister Amy A. Wright, first counselor within the Primary general presidency, invited Latter-day Saints, as they study the Book of Mormon this 12 months, to explore the names and attributes the prophets used to discuss with Jesus Christ

“Of all of the Book of Mormon prophets,” said Sister Wright, “it was Lehi who spoke most intimately and poetically of Jesus’s ‘infinite goodness’ and of the “arms of his love” (2 Nephi 1:10, 15).”

Sister Tracy Y. Browning, second counselor within the Primary general presidency, shared a video during which she reads a verse from the youngsters’s song “I Love To See the Temple.” She asked her followers to just accept the Savior’s invitation to go to the temple and “be certain to Him through covenant.”

“Our Heavenly Father loves us and needs to have a deeper, more meaningful reference to us,” Sister Browning said, “Through our temple attendance, we are able to come closer to Him and our Savior, Jesus Christ.”
