One Simple Daily Habit That Transforms Lives

“Millions of Americans are disengaged from Scripture” (American Bible Society, State of the Bible Report, [2024]). While consistency could be difficult, it’s like all rewarding habit—it becomes easier and more fulfilling as you persist. Experience the life-changing power of God’s Word—start with only one chapter a day. Begin with baby steps – reading just a few verses, a Psalm, or perhaps a chapter within the Gospel of John. Psalms are short and uplifting, while John introduces the life and teachings of Jesus beautifully.

Consistency

Think of it like a workout: the primary steps may feel stiff, but consistency brings strength and growth. Over time, it’s like weaving a tapestry—each thread revealing more of God’s amazing love and beauty. James Clear explains in Atomic Habits that even a 1% each day improvement results in a remarkable transformation.

Find a quiet place, open your Bible, and start. Even if all you do today is locate your Bible, that’s a step forward! Read just a few verses tomorrow and slightly more the following day. The key’s consistency—showing up each day and trusting God to bless and grow your efforts. When we committed to reading through the Bible twice in a single 12 months, we missed days, and consistency was tough. But we didn’t hand over—we began again. That’s the important thing: keep going.

Life Reshaping

Day by day, with regularity, your spiritual muscles grow, and the changes may surprise you—hearing God’s voice more clearly, being more aware of His presence, making selections that honor Him, forgiving a friend, or letting go of a slight. Don’t feel guilty for those who miss a day; begin again tomorrow. Over time, the more you read, the more you desire to read. It’s like eating: the more you feed on God’s Word, the hungrier you’ll turn out to be for it. Each day’s reading nourishes your soul and deepens your reference to Him.

Paul reminds pastor Timothy (and us) of this truth: “Physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for each the current life and the life to come back” (1 Timothy 4:8).

Character Refinement

Many years have passed since my husband and I accepted Pastor Bill Popejoy’s challenge, and true to his promise, it continues to remodel our lives in ways nothing else can! Will you’re taking the challenge, too? I do know it can do the identical for you. As the Prince of Preacher, Charles Spurgeon, once said, “A Bible that’s falling apart normally belongs to someone who isn’t.”

God’s life-altering Word lays an unshakable foundation, serving as the last word source of wisdom, an unfailing divine compass, and an inexhaustible wellspring of everlasting truth. It reflects God’s flawless heart, speaking powerfully and unmistakably to all who pause to listen and give up to its transformative power.
