A teacher and teenaged student have been shot and killed at a personal Christian school within the US state of Wisconsin.Â
At least six others were injured within the attack at Abundant Life Christian School in town of Madison on Monday. Two of the injured sustained life-threatening injuries and are in a critical but stable condition in hospital.Â
The shooter was identified by police as Natalie Rupnow, 15, who also goes by the name ‘Samantha’.
Police said she was in attendance at the college before opening fire in a study hall with mixed grade students at the college. She is then reported to have turned the gun on herself and died on the option to hospital.Â
Police are still working to determine a motive. They haven’t confirmed that Rupnow is linked to a manifesto allegedly by her that’s circulating online.
The attack happened just days before the college was on account of close for the Christmas break.Â
Heartbroken locals gathered in a while Monday to mourn and pray at a vigil at Blackhawk Church.Â
Speaking to reporters on Monday night, Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes said, “Today is a tragic day not just for Madison, for our entire country. We need to do a greater job in our community.”
Mr Barnes said that to one of the best of his knowledge on the time, police had not had any prior interactions with Rupnow.Â
The school has asked for prayers.Â
“All of our students have been united with their parents and we’re grateful for all of the support,” it said in a post on Facebook.Â
“We have been flooded with thoughts and prayers. This great nation is behind us. So grateful for the tsunami of prayers for our students, staff, and families.”
