An issue that employers commonly ask job applicants during interviews is, “Where do you see yourself in five or ten years?” For many individuals, this is straightforward to reply since they’ve an in depth plan to achieve their goals. Others, though, can struggle to know what to do. Sure, they’ve goals, but life may be unpredictable at times. Having an in depth, charted map of the longer term shouldn’t be all the time possible or obtainable.
This is particularly true if an individual encounters an unexpected life change. When someone receives a chronic health diagnosis, transitions into caring for elderly parents, or loses a job, he or she will be able to struggle to know what to do next. Everything that had been planned is now in disarray.
During these times, we’re clever to hunt guidance from our Lord. The unexpected situations in our lives don’t take Him by surprise since He stays Sovereign even when all the pieces around us is uncontrolled. We can turn to Him in prayer to hunt direction about what to do and how one can move forward. As Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us,
“Trust within the LORD with all of your heart; don’t depend upon your personal understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he’ll show you which of them path to take.”
Father,
This recent season of life has left me questioning what to do, Lord. My plans and goals all seem scattered now. I pray that You will guide me in response to Your perfect plan because I have no idea how one can move forward. May Your might be done above all else.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
