What Does it Mean to Be a Cheerful Giver?

Not way back, I used to be listening to a well-liked radio show that offered all types of recommendation, with a specific emphasis on personal funds.  The host was chatting with a caller who mentioned the indisputable fact that she had been married to her husband for 52 years, but at this point, he had been acting strangely toward her, most notably regarding her access to their money.Apparently, her husband was causing her to live in financial scarcity because he wouldn’t allow her to access their checking account.  She lived in a single a part of the home and he lived in one other part, and at this point, she had began to depend on her daughter to offer food for her because she was being prevented from making purchases like that herself. There was more to the story, but suffice it to say, it was a tragic thing to listen to.  I used to be sad to listen to that their lives and relationship were in such an unhealthy spot, but I used to be also sad to listen to that she was struggling to satisfy her basic needs on her own.I don’t know if you happen to’ve ever experienced a season of life when your funds were so tight that you simply didn’t know where your next meal was going to come back from, but when you’ve gotten, I’m sure you may tell stories of miraculous ways God intervened and provided in your needs.  God notices us even after we may be ignored by others. The story we’re told in Mark 12:41-44 gives us an awesome example of God’s oversight of our lives, even after we might feel ignored and unseen.  In that passage, Jesus identified a poor widow who, even within the midst of her poverty, selected to practice generosity for God’s glory.“And he sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many wealthy people put in large sums.  And a poor widow got here and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.”  – Mark 12:41-42Photo Credit: ©Getty Images/ADragan
