How Do We Stay Hopeful When the World Feels Lost?

In these trying times, we must remain diligent in turning to prayer. When my wife and I heard concerning the attack on Tehran, we immediately began to hope. We are enthusiastic about praying for peace within the Middle East, especially for Israel and the Jewish people.

In a recent article titled “A Call to Pray for America,” written after the assassination attempt, I shared some famous prayers from past leaders of our nation. My favorite, which is price repeating here, was from George Washington.

“Almighty God, we make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection; that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the residents to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for each other and for his or her fellow residents of the United States at large.”

How Do We Pray for Our Chaotic World?

Recognize that terror and destruction are the works of the enemy, who involves steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10a). In the face of what looks like a tsunami of negativity, it’s crucial to recollect our identity as children of God and followers of Jesus and to hope with the authority that comes with that inheritance. Despite the overwhelming darkness, we represent the sunshine and are called to embody the promise present in the second half of that verse:

“I even have come that they could have life, and have it to the total.” – John 10:10b

This signifies that within the midst of chaos, we have now the chance to reflect Christ’s light and hope. We aren’t just passive observers of the world’s turmoil; through intercessory prayer, we’re lively participants in God’s redemptive plan. By living out the fullness of life that Jesus offers, we exhibit the transformative power of His love and style. Our actions and attitudes could be a beacon of hope, reminding others that in Christ, there may be all the time the promise of abundant life.
